Training & Handling

Support is shaped around the current stage of your horse. From building basic manners and confidence through to preparation, backing and further education where appropriate.

The aim is not to rush the process, but to give the horse clear, consistent handling and a stronger foundation to help move it forward.

you have won a friend for life.”

Horses Looking for the
Right Home

Every horse is different, and finding the right home matters.

Abbie prides herself on being as open and honest as possible. She spends time getting to know each individual horse and focuses on learning as much as she can about their temperament, handling, experience and current stage.

Questions are always welcome. If you are interested in one of the horses below, Abbie is happy to talk through what you are looking for, what she knows about the horse and whether they could be a suitable match.

Abbie runs a busy yard caring for between 20–25 horses at any given time, including youngstock and home-bred foals. The horses advertised through the business are kept on the yard, giving Abbie the opportunity to spend time with them and get to know their handling and individual personalities before speaking with potential homes.

Spending time with the horses matters. The better she understands each horse, the easier it is to be straightforward about what they are like and the kind of home they need.

Horses Being Prepared

Some horses are still spending time on the yard and being prepared before they are actively advertised.

If one catches your eye, you are welcome to register your interest and speak with Abbie about their current stage.

Tell Us About Your Future Horse

The right horse may not always be the one currently advertised.

Abbie speaks regularly with owners and contacts throughout the equine community, including contacts within the Thoroughbred and ex-racehorse world.

If you have something particular in mind, let Abbie know what you’re looking for. She may know of a suitable horse, be able to point you in the right direction or let you know when something relevant becomes available.

There are no guarantees (sometimes the right horse simply takes time to find) but a conversation is a good place to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do the horses live?

The horses advertised through the website currently live at Abbie’s yard near Cardrona in the Scottish Borders.

Keeping the horses on the yard gives Abbie the opportunity to spend time with them, care for them and learn more about their individual personalities and handling before speaking with potential homes.

Can I arrange a viewing?

Of course!

We encourage you to come and meet them before making a decision.

Tell Abbie about your experience, why you are looking for a horse, the type of home you can offer and anything else that may help establish whether the horse could be a good match for you.

Can I ask for more photographs or videos?

Of course. Feel free to ask for additional photographs or videos.

We usually have more photographs of our horses than we show on the website, and sometimes we will have additional videos available too.

If there is something particular you would like to see, ask. It is much better to raise questions early than travel to see a horse that may not be right for you.

Can transport be arranged?

Transport can often be arranged, depending on the horse, where the buyer is based and the distance involved.

Please ask when you enquire and Abbie can let you know what may be possible.

Do you sell horses on behalf of their owners?

Yes - but only selectively. Any horse represented through Abbie’s Equine Services must be one Abbie knows well enough to speak about honestly and confidently. That means understanding the horse’s temperament, handling, way of going and the kind of home it is likely to suit.

It is important that Abbie feels comfortable honestly representing any horse advertised for sale, and has enough information to speak confidently with potential buyers. The horse itself, circumstances and the type of home being sought will all be considered first.

Where a horse is suitable, Abbie can discuss what support may be possible and how the commission-based arrangement works. The priority is always to match the right horse with the right person, not simply to advertise whatever is available.

Have a Question?
Just Ask.

Whether you’re interested in one of our advertised horses, looking for something specific or want to ask about clipping or training, the easiest place to start is a conversation.
